Bullion x Mark From Middlesex on Red Light Radio

by Alex Chase on January 3, 2012

Bullion and Mark From Middlesex, two of our favourite selectors, met recently in a Dutch brothel. They played strange music for hours. That’s all we know.

Enjoy!

Bullion’s Canterbury Mix

by Alex Chase on April 25, 2011

Bullion’s You Drive Me To Plastic drops on CD any day now and as part of his devilish promotional strategy he’s dropped this mix paying tribute to the ‘Canterbury scene’, the southern English movement that included prog and avant legends such as Soft Machine, Caravan and Kevin Ayers.

While prog rock and the various kinds of fusion associated with it in the late 60s and 70s are often maligned as pompous or grandiose, this is often total nonsense: bands like Soft Machine and Gong were as silly as they were serious about their musicianship. There’s a Matching Mole LP that lists “Musicians In Order Of Beard Length”. It’s this playfulness combined with a drive to push things forward that links Bullion to this scene. Well, that and the love of a good fiddle solo.

Check Bullion’s new record at his website. Tracklist after the jump.
